This time, our journey took us to <strong>Split, Croatia<\/strong>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this article, I\u2019ll be sharing the <strong>places we visited<\/strong>, the <strong>activities we experienced<\/strong>, and why we believe <strong>traveling to Croatia in the off-season<\/strong> is not only <strong>more enjoyable<\/strong> but even more <strong>stunning <\/strong>than during the busy summer months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before we dive in, here\u2019s a quick look at the places we explored and the activities we enjoyed:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"#sea-kayaking\">Split: Sea Kayaking<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#mostar-day-trip\">Mostar &amp; Kravice Waterfalls (Bosnia &amp; Herzegovina): Day Trip by bus<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#rafting-cetina-river\">Cetina River: Rafting<\/a> &amp;<a href=\"#river-tubing-split\"> River Tubing<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#boat-trip-hvar\">Blue Cave on Bi\u0161evo Island, Blue Lagoon, and Hvar: Day Trip by boat<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>As it was already <strong>September<\/strong>, autumn was just around the corner, so both Sharleyne and I (Sophie) were eager to soak up a little more sunshine and enjoy temperatures above 15\u00b0C. So, we packed our bags, mapped out the itinerary, and caught our (very, very) early flight to Split!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"gb-headline gb-headline-97b397fc gb-headline-text\" id=\"sea-kayaking\"><strong>DAY 1: Sea Kayaking in Split<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>After catching our early 6 am flight to Split, we arrived\u2014some more awake than others, but nothing a little caffeine couldn\u2019t fix. From the airport, we took a <strong>shuttle to the city center<\/strong>, then hopped on a bus to <strong>Bene Beach in the Marjan Forest<\/strong>, a must-see spot on any Split itinerary (we planned to explore it more later, so stay tuned).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our first activity of the trip: <strong>Sea Kayaking<\/strong> with our partner <strong>Given2Fly Adventures Split<\/strong>. Once there, we met our sea kayaking guide, <strong>Sven<\/strong>, who gave us our <strong>gear and a quick safety briefing<\/strong> before we set off on the water. It turned into quite the arm workout! After about an hour, Sven kindly offered to tow us, and though we hesitated at first, we gladly accepted the second time (with very tired arms). The <strong>waves were a bit more intense than we expected<\/strong>, so it wasn\u2019t quite the relaxing paddle we had in mind, but it was <strong>definitely fun<\/strong>. As we paddled past <strong>Marjan Hill<\/strong>, we spotted several <strong>military bunkers\u2014remnants from World War II<\/strong>, when Croatia was a key strategic location. After meeting the provider <strong>Booker<\/strong> <strong>Travel Agency<\/strong> in Split, we took a three-hour drive to <strong>Mostar, a city beautifully situated on the Neretva River<\/strong> and the fifth-largest in the country. Though I napped part of the way, the landscape was stunning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mostar is named after the &#8220;<strong>mostari<\/strong>,&#8221; the <strong>bridge keepers<\/strong> who once guarded the Stari Most (Old Bridge) during the Ottoman era. This 16th-century bridge, now a <strong>UNESCO World Heritage Site<\/strong>, is the city\u2019s most famous landmark and symbolizes the <strong>harmonious coexistence of Islam, Christianity, and Judaism<\/strong>, reflected in its diverse architecture, shared cultural practices, and community events. Mostar thrived during the Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian periods, later industrializing under Yugoslavia. Although heavily damaged during the Bosnian War, the <strong>Old Bridge has been restored<\/strong>, symbolizing both the city&#8217;s resilience and its role as a cultural hub.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Our Tip: <\/strong>As the day progressed, the city became crowded with tourists, especially along the narrow streets. To avoid the rush, we recommend visiting early for a more relaxed experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After enjoying a <strong>traditional Herzegovinian lunch <\/strong>at a traditional restaurant called \u201c<strong>\u0160adrvan<\/strong>\u201d (we would definitely recommend getting the \u201ctraditional platter\u201d, we hopped back on the bus for our next stop: <strong>Po\u010ditelj<\/strong>, a <strong>picturesque village<\/strong> showcasing a captivating blend of oriental and medieval architecture. Cascading from the Trebi\u017eat River over large tuff limestone deposits into the lake below, the waterfalls are located in a protected area that welcomes locals and tourists for visits, picnics, camping, and swimming. The weather forecast was not as sunny and warm as the previous days, but it did not bother us. We started with a hearty breakfast, enjoying delicious avocado toast and coffee for the energy we\u2019d need. After gearing up with <strong>helmets, wetsuits, and life jackets<\/strong>, we received a <strong>safety briefing<\/strong> and set off on our adventure along the stunning river. Navigating the rapids added a thrilling touch to the experience, and as an autumn lover, I found even more joy in it after this adventure!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class='checkyeti-cta-button-wrapper'>\r\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.checkyeti.com\/en\/d\/959\/6811\" class='checkyeti-cta-button' target=\"_blank\" title=\"Rafting with Adventure Dalmatia\">Book with Adventure Dalmatia<\/a>\r\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The tour lasted about five hours, and after being dropped off back in Split, we headed to our hotel for a quick shower before venturing out to explore the city further. We were pleasantly surprised by Split\u2019s beauty, as we hadn\u2019t known much about it before our visit. Rich in history, the city boasts stunning monuments like <strong>Diocletian&#8217;s Palace <\/strong>and the<strong> Riva waterfront<\/strong>, where we enjoyed a lovely stroll. We kicked off the morning with a big breakfast before heading to our meeting point for another adventure. Again, we drove along picturesque country roads to the<strong> Cetina River<\/strong>, where we suited up for today\u2019s adventure: <strong>river tubing<\/strong>. I was eager to try this activity, having never done it before. In river tubing, you <strong>float on a tube and navigate the river using just your hands<\/strong>, without any additional equipment. We ventured to a quieter stretch of the Cetina, which allowed for a more <strong>relaxed exploration of the surrounding nature<\/strong>. I loved the calmness of tubing, as it let me soak in the scenery while still enjoying the thrill of small rapids. Sharleyne chose the fried calamari, while I went for the stuffed cabbage. Although we understood why it\u2019s a hotspot, we weren\u2019t overly impressed by the food\u2014it was good, but not exceptional. This was the day we\u2019d explore Croatia\u2019s beautiful islands during a <strong>boat trip<\/strong> with <strong>SeaYou Croatia<\/strong>! We met our hostess early in the morning, ready for the adventure to begin. Our first stop: the famous <strong>Blue Cave on Bi\u0161evo Island<\/strong>. This stunning sea cave is known for its enchanting blue light, caused by sunlight reflecting off the seabed. Best visited around midday, the Blue Cave, discovered in 1884, remains one of Croatia\u2019s most magical natural wonders, captivating visitors with its <strong>unique blue glow<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1170\" height=\"658\" src=\"https:\/\/blog-cdn.checkyeti.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/View-recent-photos.jpeg-5-edited.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-20328\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog-cdn.checkyeti.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/View-recent-photos.jpeg-5-edited.png 1170w, https:\/\/blog-cdn.checkyeti.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/View-recent-photos.jpeg-5-edited-300x169.png 300w, https:\/\/blog-cdn.checkyeti.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/View-recent-photos.jpeg-5-edited-1024x576.png 1024w, https:\/\/blog-cdn.checkyeti.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/View-recent-photos.jpeg-5-edited-768x432.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 767px) 89vw, (max-width: 1000px) 54vw, (max-width: 1071px) 543px, 580px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The magical blue glow in the Blue Cave on Bi\u0161evo Island<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>After arriving at Bi\u0161evo Island, we had some time to explore while our hostess handled the Blue Cave tickets, as it\u2019s <strong>only accessible by small motorboats<\/strong>. Soon, we were ready to experience the cave\u2019s magical blue glow firsthand. We were amazed that the <strong>colors <\/strong>were just as <strong>vibrant <\/strong>as in the photos! The<strong> atmosphere inside was truly special<\/strong>, and the skilled skippers navigated us smoothly through the cave, making sure we saw every corner. Just remember to duck when entering\u2014the entrance is quite narrow!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After this incredible experience, we continued our boat trip<strong> along Vis Island&#8217;s coastline<\/strong>, guided by our captain and hostess who shared interesting facts about the area. Our next stop was <strong>Stiniva Bay<\/strong>, famous for being a filming location for <em>Mamma Mia 2<\/em>. The captain shared a fun fact: the island\u2019s only residents are an old man and his ducks, chickens, geese, and donkeys. Not a bad retirement setup! As a visitor, you can <strong>swim, snorkel, or relax at the local restaurant<\/strong>. We chose to explore the island, greeted the animals, and stumbled upon an even more beautiful beach on the other side. As we approached, we were greeted by a stunning view of the town and the impressive <strong>Fortica Fortress<\/strong> towering above. Once on land, we grabbed lunch with fellow boat trip participants before making our way up to the fortress. The scenic path offered gorgeous views of the city, sea, and lots of cacti. The climb got a bit warm under the sun, so we treated ourselves to some<strong> lavender ice cream<\/strong>, a local specialty. On the boat ride back to Split, Sharleyne started feeling unwell. Turns out, she had dealt with <strong>seasickness <\/strong>before but, confident she\u2019d overcome it, left her pills at home. Well, that didn\u2019t end so well! So, to wrap up this article and help you avoid the same fate, here are <strong>a few tips to combat seasickness<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Focus on a fixed point on land, like a tower, a tree or anything that doesn\u2019t move<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Focus on your breathing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Always bring seasickness pills\u2014or ask the crew. They often have some on board!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Oh and by the way\u2026 Turns out I am also a bit sea sick. Well, now I know and next time I come more prepared.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>Even though our trip didn\u2019t end quite as we expected, we had an amazing time filled with incredible adventures.
