Popular Ski Schools for Obertauern

"We had a great two mornings with Sebastian. He was lovely and managed to get us all (family of four, two girls 8 and 9) from zero to a blue slope, despite one day of freezing blizzards. He pushed us but kept it all super fun and was very flexible and responsive to our needs. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend him and the school. "

"My husband and I were first time skiers. Leo has us down a blue run after a few hours of lessons. He and Adam were incredibly patient, particularly as I wasn’t the most fearless on the mountain - they kept me and others encouraged and feeling safe. Highly recommend for anyone thinking of learning to ski in Obertauern."

"We had a great day ice climbing with Gernot! The activities were well planned for our skill level and we had a lot of fun. I would suggest to make sure you have the correct shoes for the climbing. We ended up in our ski boots because our hiking shoes turned out to be not stiff enough."

Learn to ski in Obertauern

Situated in the Lungau region of Salzburger Land, Obertauern was one of Austria’s first ski resorts and the country’s only purpose-built resort. Thanks to its location in a high alpine bowl on the Radstadt Tauern, Obertauern has a long season with very reliable snow conditions.

Obertauern offers mostly ski in/ski out accommodation and is surrounded by 7 mountains known as the Super Seven: Zehnerkarspitze 2381m, Gamsleitenspitz 2357m, Gurpitsch Eck 2526m, Plattenspitz 2293m, Hundskogel 2238m, Seekarspitz 2350m and Seekareck 2217m. These mountains are home to 100km of pistes, including the famous Gamsleiten II black run, which has a gradient of almost 100% and is one of the steepest tracks in Austria.

Obertauern is only 1hr drive from Salzburg and the combination of easy accessibility, snow-sure slopes and a lively après ski scene ensure that Obertauern ticks all the boxes for many skiers.

The group lessons are generally recommended for beginners. Learning together with peers is more fun. Yes, that's possible. Some providers even offer special family offers. Otherwise, you can simply book a private instructor for children or adults and inform the ski school after booking that you would like to go together.
