"So, I am 54 years old, and now came the time for me to try hitting the snow on skies. I had never skied before. Well, I tried it a few times over 30 years ago, had 1 or 2 lessons at most back then. In preparation my wife and I signed up for three one-and-a-half hour lessons in a small group at Montana Snowcenter. We learned to stand on our skies without falling over. Sliding of the shallow slope in pizza. We signed up for a whole week of ski-lessons in an absolute-beginners group in Auffach with the Happy Skischule Wildschönau where we met with Herbert and Achim. As not every participant has signed for a whole week, the group was a bit dynamic. Each day Herbert and Achim evaluated the progress and then decided on who goes in which group. As such we enjoyed lessons the best fit our level, every day. But what is it that makes me spending a couple of words on my experience with Happy Skischule? It is the professionalism and commitment I received from the teachers. The most friendly Achim brought compassion and dedication, focused on the progress we made, he decided where to go and what to learn next. After every run down hill, he watched who should go right behind him in our next run so he could provide that person with the best personal advice. Every practice he explained clearly followed by his ‘Looky-looky’ when he demonstrated the exercise. On the fourth day, in the afternoon session, Achim brought us to the top of the mountain where we – or at least I – experienced the full piste experience for the first time in my life. On a ‘red’ path we managed to follow Achim who carefully and slowly guided us downhill, three times in a row. What a fantastic experience! Overall I managed to get the confidence needed to practice the shallow blue slope at mittle-station on my own at our last day when we did not booked lessons anymore. And eventually, during that morning our friends invited us to join them to go to the other mountain Gmahkopf for the remainder of the day where we enjoyed a couple of blue slopes with a little help from them of course. Achim, and also Herbert (who provided the same professional ski lessons to our slightly more experienced daughter) thank you for an outstanding week of fun, joy and pleasure.
