Snowboard Group Courses for Children and Adults

24Customer recommendations
"Philippe was a very versed instructor. He not only focussed on improving my skills but was also conscious on doing it in a safe manner. I felt getting my level up, from an intermediate to intermediate/advance level. He gave me succinct insights around good ski equipments, regional topology and minute weather changes such as visual storm indications and how to detect them. I initially booked the course in Zinal, but requested to switch to Grimentz due to logistical restriction. This was promptly rectified from the school."

Ski Schools in Saas Fee

Learn to ski in Saas-Fee

The environmentally-friendly ski resort of Saas-Fee is situated in the southern canton of Wallis, 2hrs drive from Bern and 3hrs from Geneva. Saas-Fee was the first ski resort in Switzerland to use only natural power.

Saas-Fee is the largest of four villages that make up the Free Republic of Holidays Saas-Fee ski alliance, the other resorts being SaasGrund, Saas-Balen & Saas-Almagell. The Saas valley resorts are ringed by many mountains, including 13 peaks that range above 4,000m. A free, electric shuttle bus service interconnects the 4 villages.

Saas Fee lies at the foot of the Dom, a mountain reaching a height of 4545m above sea level, and situated directly below the Fee glacier. The Fee glacier ski area enjoys excellent snow conditions all year round and has an average of 300 days of sunshine per year.

The resort offers 100km of slopes, the majority of pistes being on the Mittelallalin at altitudes around 3500m. 20% of the slopes in Saas-Fee are ideal for beginners, these being wide and gentle, and being mainly located lower in the valley or up on the glacier. Many of the red runs on the glacier are also very gentle, and would be classed blue in other resorts.

Ski lessons for beginners in Saas-Fee

Ski schools in Saas-Fee offer ski lessons from age 4yrs. Depending on the ski school, lessons last between 2-3hrs and have between 4-8 participants. The meeting point for beginner lessons is usually either at the Kalbermatten beginners lift, or at a pre-arranged position.

The ski schools in Saas-Fee firstly teach their novices the basic moves of the glide and snowplough, these techniques being taught on the flattest slopes within the resort. Once the beginners can glide quite securely, lessons progress to slopes with a slight incline. Here, the snowplough turn is gradually introduced.

Beginners who have had some previous skiing experience are taken by the ski schools in Saas-Fee directly to easy blue runs. The lessons focus on improving technique and optimising the body position. Parallel skiing is firstly introduced when the glide and snowplough techniques have been well established.

For their intermediate skiers, the ski schools in Saas-Fee recommend the red runs around the Morenia lift as ideal for practising after lessons.

When should we book?

During the holiday weeks, ski and snowboard courses are usually fully booked. In order to make sure that there is still a place available in the desired ski or snowboard course, the motto is: the sooner the better.

How do we find our appropriate experience level?

Next to the menu item "Experience level" you will find a description of the individual experience levels. If you're still not sure, you don't need to worry. Simply choose the experience level that best suits your abilities. Before the first lesson of a group course, ski schools will assess your abilities so that you can be placed in the right group. In any case, private instructors will take your abilities into account on an individual basis.

How do we find offers including equipment?

All offers including equipment are marked with the inscription "Ski rental included". If you find the inscription "Ski rental optional" you can book the equipment for this offer. You will find offers including equipment faster if you select the filter "Ski rental including" under the menu item "Popular options". At what age can children ski or snowboard?

There is no fixed age limit here. Supported by specially trained children's ski instructors, children can already learn to ski playfully at kindergarten age. Occasionally there are children who can already learn to ski at the age of 3 1/2 years.

How many days should the lessons last for our children?

During the holiday weeks, children's ski courses for beginners usually start on Sunday or Monday. The program is designed in such a way that the best learning results are achieved when your children take part in the ski course throughout the week. So they don't miss the final event (race, etc.) and experience a great week with their group. For advanced children the learning success usually kicks in on the third day.

Is it better to put our child in a group lesson or a private tuition?

The group lessons are generally recommended for beginners. Learning together with peers is more fun. The children are not constantly in the focus and have the possibility to catch their breath between the individual exercises, while the other children are on it. In order not to underchallenge highly talented children, a private ski instructor is recommended.

Can we join our child with a private instructor?

Yes, that's possible. Some providers even offer special family offers. Otherwise, you can simply book a private instructor for children or adults and inform the ski school after booking that you would like to go together.
