La Plagne is a ski resort in the French department of Savoie, in the Tarentaise Valley. Located in the Northern Alps, this resort has been part of the second biggest ski area in the world, Paradiski, since 2003. Paradiski is a vast domain in which you’ll find 3 huge ski resorts: Les Arcs, Peisey-Vallandry and La Plagne. You can easily reach the ski schools in La Plagne by car. La Plagne is only 2.5h away from Geneva and Lyon, and approximately 2h from Grenoble.
The ski resort in La Plagne is so vast, that it has 10 sub-resorts: Belle Plagne, Plagne Bellecôte, Plagne Centre, Plagne Soleil, Plagne Villages, Plagne 1800, Plagne Aime 2000, Montchavin La Plagne, La Plagne Montalbert and Champagny en Vanoise. Vacationists in La Plagne have the possibility to ski on a total of 130 slopes of different difficulty levels, out of which 70% are located at an altitude of over 2000m. The high altitude guarantees good snow conditions throughout the winter season.
The Bellecôte mountain (3417m) is La Plagne’s highest point and surmounts the winter-wonderland-esque landscape. On this mountain, however, you’ll only find red and black slopes, for example on one of its two glaciers: Bellecôte glacier and La Chiaupe glacier. There also are smaller, less vertiginous mountains to which skiers have direct access from La Plagne. Roche de Mio (2350m), Col de Forcle (2270m), Grande Rochette (2505m), Les Verdons (2500m), Biolley (2350m) and Fornelet (1970m) for example, offer slopes for skiers of every level of experience.
This large variety of slopes allows ski schools in La Plagne to offer high-quality ski lessons. Whether a lesson is taking place on one of the numerous blue slopes, which are ideal for beginners, or on the “Natur’” slopes (slopes that haven’t been groomed), simply great for freeriders - the ski schools in La Plagne know where to take you for a great experience. The resort also has a snowpark, 3 boardercross slopes and 2 giant airbags for practising your jumps.
Ski schools in La Plagne offer group and private lessons for beginners of all ages. The group lessons take place in La Plagne 1800, La Plagne Centre, La Plagne Soleil and La Plagne Villages. The ski instructor awaits the students at the bottom of the slopes, 10min prior to the lesson’s start. The exact place and meeting point of private lessons are individually arranged between the instructor and the student. The advantage of private lessons is that private instructors can take their students to any piste in the resort - whatever best matches the participants needs and wishes.
In all ski schools in La Plagne, beginners first learn to slide while controlling their speed and their direction through the snow-plough technique. With this technique, skiers will quickly gain confidence on green and blue slopes.
Children from the age of 3 can participate in the ski lessons and discover the world of skiing in one of the resort’s 4 Piou Piou clubs, with the condition that they have to have completed a try-out session of half a day before. In a playful environment adapted to the kids’ needs, friendly mascots will help the children get used to their equipment in a playful way.
Children from the age of 5 can participate in lessons for all levels of experience. The participants will be split into several groups, in which all participants have a similar age and level of experience. This means that total beginners will stay on easier slopes, while more advanced skiers will also tackle more demanding pistes.
