Learn to ski in St. Anton
Located at an altitude of 1300m in Austria’s Arlberg region, St. Anton is one of the top five resorts in the Alps. The resort is part of the extensive Ski Arlberg ski region, which is the largest interconnected skiing area in Austria and extends over Vorarlberg and Tyrol. Ski Arlberg consists of two parts, Arlberg East and Arlberg West, and offers more than 300km of slopes, plus 200km of deep snow terrain.
Located just over an hour from Innsbruck, 2hrs drive from Zurich and 2,5hrs drive from Munich, St. Anton is full of life and Austrian charm. It is also the birthplace of Hannes Schneider, who developed the Arlberg Technique - the basics of ski instruction that are still used for teaching alpine skiing to this day.
Hannes Schneider was also the founder of the Kandahar ski club, which established the first races on the world-famous Kandahar black run within the resort, with its gradients of up to 92%.
From the resort, there is easy access to the five surrounding mountains; the Rendl, Galzig , Kapall, Valluga and Gampen, each offering diverse slopes at all levels. With such a wealth of pistes available, ski schools in St. Anton offer an extensive variety of lessons, not only in skiing and snowboarding, but also freeriding, snow-touring and even heliski tours.

With 43% or 140km of slopes being graded as easy, the entire Ski Arlberg ski resort is very suitable for beginners. Ski schools in St. Anton offer lessons for skiers aged 5yrs and upwards, lessons lasting for 4hrs. First-timer lessons take place on the village nursery slopes, either directly in St. Anton or in nearby Nasserein, which are flat and ideal for learning the first moves.
Once the basics have been established, ski novices progress onto the blue slopes within the resort. The ski schools in St. Anton head for the conveniently-situated blues either in the Galzig or Fangbahn areas, or around the Rendl 2030, which also has a beginners’ lift.
Beginners wanting some practice after lessons should consider the blue route no.27, which starts up at the Gampen 1850 restaurant and meanders back down into St. Anton.
Kids' ski lessons in St. Anton

The next step for young ski learners is to practice simple turns on some of the lower-lying and easier blue runs within the resort. There are three areas nearby that have ideal blues, the favourites for the ski schools in St. Anton being the Galzig and Fangbahn areas to the right of St. Anton, and Rendl 2030, to the left.
Intermediate skiers will also find their space on the quiet red runs around the Rendl area, such as the lengthy R1, which starts at the Rendl restaurant and makes a huge curve back down into St. Anton.
