This 10 km canoe tour from Gumpenried to Viechtach is the perfect mix of faster and slower flow speeds. So you should already have some experience in canoeing before you start this tour. Going through the untouched nature of this region will be a magical experience. Tour programme
- Preparation:
Our meeting point for this canoe tour is in Gumpenried, 30 minutes before the tour starts. You can reach the starting point from Viechtach with the Waldbahn train. From the Gumpenried train stop. As soon as you arrive, we start with an intensive briefing on safety, the route, environmental protection and paddling technique. We also hand out the life jackets and paddles. To help you find the route without a guide, we also give you a route description in the canoe. If you have booked a guide, he will of course accompany you during the tour and show you the route.
- Tour:
On this tour, you enter at the Gumpenrieder Schwall. A 400 m long section with a faster flow speed that provides some thrill. The rest of the tour is calm and relaxed. Following the Schwarzer Regen river, you pass by the Schnitzmühle. The river is a paradise for nature lovers, as it represents one of the last and most beautiful wild river landscapes in all of Bavaria. There are hardly any hiking trails in this area, so the best way to explore it is by canoe. This untouched nature also gives the region its name: Bavarian Canada. By the way, the river gets its name from the moor-like soil. This is the reason for the dark, almost black colour of the soil, which also makes the water appear dark. In reality, however, the water is very clear.
- Return:
Your canoe tour ends after 2.5 hours of paddling in Viechtach at the public exit and entry for canoes. Here we will pick you and the canoes up with cars and our boat trolley and bring you comfortably back to the starting point in Gumpenried.
