Learn to ski in Kaprun

The ski resort Kaprun is located at the foot of the famous Kitzsteinhorn in the National Park Hohe Tauern. It takes about 1.5h by car from Salzburg and about 2h to 2.5h from Innsbruck and Munich to reach the ski resort. At an altitude of 3203m, the Kitzsteinhorn is not only Austria's first, but also Salzburg's only glacier ski area. First opened in 1965, the ski resort is now part of the ski alliance Zell am See - Kaprun. Both places, Zell am See and Kaprun, are connected via ski buses and offer a wide range of slopes.

Kaprun offers direct access to the training area on the Lechnerberg (835m), the family- and beginner-friendly slopes on the Maiskogel (1730m) as well as to the challenging pistes of the Kitzsteinhorn glacier. If you' re looking for a real challenge, try skiing down the Black Mamba, the steepest track of the Kitzsteinhorn.

While experienced skiers love to ski on the slopes of the Kitzsteinhorn, beginners and families prefer to practice their skills on the training area at the Lechnerberg or the mostly blue slopes of the Maiskogel. The latter also has its own training piste for beginners, the Maisi practice slope right next to the Maisi lift. The ski schools in Kaprun usually meet the beginners right at the ski school office. The meeting point for slightly advanced groups is usually at the mountain station of the Gletscherjet 1.

The training area on the Lechnerberg is perfect for young skiers and therefore, most of the beginners lessons for kids take place there. The ski schools in Kaprun offer ski lessons for kids from the age of 3 years on and a ski kindergarten, BOBO's Bambini Club, for the younger ones. In the afternoon, it's all about fun and games in BOBO's Bambini Club. For the older kids, BOBO’s Kinderland on the Lechnerberg offers an exciting pirate ship, an iceberg and a magic carpet.

For those preferring a ski enthusiastic dinosaur, DINO’S KIDSCLUB is the place to be - 4500m² of pure fun. A ski carousel, a magic carpet, a Pinocchio lift and XXXL figures turn the ski lessons into an unforgettable adventure with a cuddly dinosaur.

That’s special about ski lessons in Kaprun

Although most of the slopes on the Kitzsteinhorn are of medium difficulty, the blue slopes of the glacier ski area, such as the Rettenwand and the Alpincenter slopes, are perfect for beginners and families. The ski schools in Kaprun usually offer their lessons including ski rental and lunch care for children.

As a glacier ski area, Kaprun has the great advantage of an early season start (October) and perfect skiing conditions until well into the summer months. Don’t miss out on the amazing view from Salzburg's highest viewing platform, the Top of Salzburg, at an altitude of 3029m above sea level. From the Kitzsteinhorn you can see the Kaprun valley, the Zeller See and Austria's highest mountain peaks. The Glacier Park offers 22 obstacles for freestyler and amazing freeride tours for those who love to leave their tracks in the fresh powder snow.
