Ski Schools in Méribel

Learn to ski in Méribel

The ski resort of Méribel is situated in the heart of the Les Trois Vallées, within the French Savoie region. Skiers travelling to the region can take the convenient Altibus directly from Geneva airport to the resort. Les Trois Vallées is Europe’s biggest ski resort and was given the name because it extends over three valleys; Vallée des Belleville, Vallée de Méribel and Vallée de Courchevel. The Trois Vallées area encompasses 8 resorts: Méribel, Courchevel, Val Thorens, Orelle, La Tania, Les Menuires, Saint Martin and Bride les Bains.

Méribel resort has 4 villages, the highest being Altiport at 1,700m. In the lower lying areas are Brides les Bains at 600m, Les Allues at 1,200m and Méribel Village at 1,400m, and at the top of the valley lies Méribel-Mottaret at 1,750m. Altiport and Méribel-Mottaret are renowned for their beginners areas.

With more than 150km of runs, stunning views of Mont Blanc and various pretty, stone and wood villages to suit every accommodation preference, the ski schools in Méribel are the ideal destination for all those who want to learn to ski or improve their skiing technique in this exceptional resort.

Ski lessons for beginners in Méribel

Beginner ski lessons are arranged in groups of 3-6 for both children and adults. Beginner lessons start with learning the basics of staying steady on skis and the snowplough, before moving onto turns. When it comes to easy runs, ski schools in Méribel have an extensive choice: The resort has two designated nursery areas at Méribel-Mottaret and at Meribel Altiport. The specially-designed beginner area in Méribel-Mottaret has its own magic carpet, a drag lift plus a new chair linking to the green Little Himalaya run. Mottaret also has two “Zen zones” with easy, learners’ slopes. The Altiport has gentle green beginner slopes, one top favourite for ski schools in Méribel being the Blanchot run, which starts at the top of the Saulire Express and leads back to the Altiport area. Most ski schools in Méribel meet directly at the Méribel-Mottaret and Altiport nursery areas for their beginner lessons.

Kids' ski lessons in Méribel

Group lessons have small groups of max. 3-6 skiers, which allows instructors to fully focus on each child. Beginners lessons are usually taken directly at the two nursery areas in Méribel-Mottaret and Meribel Altiport, where they learn a stable body position and how to make their first snowplough turns.

Next-step beginners are taken to practice their parallel skiing on some of the 8 green and 25 blue runs within the area. A few of these blue runs are more difficult and so having an experienced ski instructor at hand definitely helps ensure a successful descent. The north-facing Choucas blue run is another favourite with ski schools in Méribel, thanks to its excellent snow conditions.

Ski schools in Méribel take advanced skiers onto red runs, such as the Combe Vallon, which is one of the longest runs in the valley, or the Creux, which starts at the summit of the Saulire express 1 & 2.
