"My wife and I had a wonderful time skiing with Walter. He was able to ensure we were skiing the best parts of the mountain for the time of the day, identified ways to fine tune our skiing and made sure we stopped at the best places on the mountain courtesy of his local knowledge. We definitely skied more of the Dolomites than we ever could have by ourselves and he struck the perfect balance of incorporating tips and exercises into the days skiing while guiding us around."

Located in the northern Italian province of Belluno at an altitude of 1,224m, Cortina D’Ampezzo is one of the most renowned ski resorts in the entire Alpine arc. Known as the "Queen of the Dolomites" due to its central position within the Conca D'Ampezzo, Cortina D’Ampezzo is encircled by the Dolomites UNESCO heritage site and offers views of magnificent mountains such as Monte Cristallo, the Tofane, the Three Peaks of Lavaredo and Cristallino D'Ampezzo.

Ski lessons for beginners in Cortina

The ski schools in Cortina offer ski lessons from age 4yrs. Group lessons last between 3-5,5hrs per day, depending on the ski school, and several ski schools in Cortina offer lessons for all ages with optional lunch care.

First-timer lessons generally start on the beginner slopes of the Socrepes area, which is close to the town. The wide, flat slopes here are ideal for learning how to snowplough, glide and brake. The ski schools in Cortina generally meet for lessons at the Roncato chair lift, which accesses the slopes of Socrepes directly from Cortina.

Once the first two moves have been well established, beginner lessons progress to slopes with a slight incline and the snowplough turn is introduced. Beginners who have previous skiing experience will be taken by the ski schools in Cortina directly to such slopes, to begin to work on parallel skiing.

Not only group but also private ski lessons are offered by the ski schools in Cortina. Private lessons generally ensure faster progress through focused instruction and can also be arranged to include a family or a group of friends, which makes for the perfect combination of learning to ski in company with the support of a dedicated instructor.

Kids’ ski lessons in Cortina

First-timer lessons take place either on the designated beginner slopes of the Socrepes area or directly at the ski school camp slope, depending on the school. The youngest learners are playfully taught the first basics of skiing, sometimes with the help of a friendly mascot figure. Children who are more advanced than the rest of their group are moved into a higher level group that better suits their ability.

Young skiers with previous experience are taken directly to slopes that suit their experience, whether blue, red or black. Here, the ski schools in Cortina focus on improving the young skier’s technique and posture whilst introducing more challenging skiing styles.
