No previous experience is required, everybody above 12 years can explore the Great Barrier Reef from a fish’s point of view!
Dive AreaThe introductory dive takes place at the seabird sanctuary of Michaelmas Cay on the Great Barrier Reef. The Cay is wind protected and its calm shallow waters create a perfect dive site for first-timers. Over 400 types of corals are home to colourful parrotfish, clownfish alias Nemo, sea turtles and seabirds circling above your head - Great Barrier Reef diving is a once in a lifetime magical experience.
Programme- Meeting & Preparation:The
check-in for the Great Barrier Reef diving
starts at 7.30am at Ocean Spirit’s counter inside the Reef Fleet Terminal. There, the Environmental Management Charge of $6.50/person is to be paid. The vessel
departs for Michaelmas Cay at
08.00am. We also offer coach transfers from Cairns and Northern Beaches for an extra charge.
- Diving:Before we dive into the underwater wonderland, you will have to pass the onboard medical questionnaire and participate in a 30 min dive briefing. At Michaelmas Cay, you will put on the equipment and in a small group of a maximum of 8 participants, you will put the newly acquired skills into practice. Once everybody is ready, off we go. The Great Barrier Reef diving is a fully supervised, guided introductory dive which is safe and fun. Apart from the introductory diving, you can experience for example a fish feeding presentation, informative marine biologist reef presentation, snorkeling or semi-submersible coral viewing tour as we stay for 4 hours at the reef. Having completed the Great Barrier Reef diving, you will receive a memento of your scuba diving adventure.
- Return:The catamaran returns to Cairns around 5.00pm.
