The longest canoe descent on the Vézère, of 26km, invites you to go back in time through its rich historical heritage. While paddling, you will discover the most beautiful castles of the valley standing above the river before crossing Saint-Léon-sur-Vézère, elected Most Beautiful Village in France, and let yourself be carried along the high cliffs sheltering the ancient troglodytic habitats dating back to Prehistory. Don't forget to bring your lunch to picnic on one of the sandbanks of the wildest river of the Dordogne and even your swimsuit for a refreshing break along the way. An unforgettable day awaits you!
Tour programme
- Preparation:
We meet you at our base. A large shaded car park awaits you there. Our team will welcome you, give you the equipment before boarding the shuttle that will take you to the departure point. No worries for beginners, a briefing on paddle handling and the route is done before departure.
- Tour:
Comfortably seated in your canoe with backrest, the descent can begin. You will paddle for about 5 hours and start by discovering the castles of the valley: Losse, Belcayre and Clérans. Then you will cross Saint-Léon-sur-Vézère, a picturesque medieval village in the Périgord Noir and, as you paddle along the meanders of the Vézère, you will discover the troglodytic sites of La Roque Saint-Christophe and La Madeleine, the strange Maison Forte de Reignac built directly in the rock, the castle of Marzac or the impressive cliffs of the 7 brothers. You can also stop along the river for a break in the shade or a swim.
- Return:
You have no time limit for the descent. At the end of the descent, you will arrive at our base where you will find your vehicle. You can also enjoy our waterside snack bar or our brasserie on site.
