If you want to discover every nook and cranny of Europe's highest active volcano, you cannot miss our excursion to Etna and the Gole dell'Alcantara. We will see various valleys of this volcano and, if you wish, even reach the summit craters at almost 3000 metres!
We will leave Taormina by private bus and first reach the Gole dell'Alcantara, a canyon formed by black lava walls up to 50 metres high. You have around 1 hour to visit the park for a fee, or simply see these amazing rock formations from above. We will then get on the Circumetnea, a historical railway connecting numerous towns around Etna, such as Bronte, which is internationally famous for its pistachio production.
We will get off at Adrano and continue by bus up to Rifugio Sapienza at 1900 metres. Regarding lunch, you can bring your own or eat at the hut. You can either stop at 1900 metres or take the cable car. Those who will stay can explore the Silvestri craters and the Valle del Bove, and experience the lunar landscape of Etna's southern slope.
Those who will ascend to higher altitudes will take the cable car up to 2500 metres. The journey to the summit craters will then continue in powerful all-terrain vehicles, accompanied by alpine guides. They will then have about two hours to see the activity of the craters in a safe zone. Once everyone is back at the refuge, we will return to Taormina.
