Details
If you have always wanted to visit an active volcano, then our excursion to Mount Etna is just what you are looking for. The Etna is the highest volcano in Europe and dominates Sicily at 3357 metres of altitude. Our adventure will take us to a mountain lodge at 1900 metres, and if you feel up to it, even at almost 3000 metres.
We will depart from Taormina by private bus with a guide on board and reach in about 1.5 hours the Rifugio Sapienza, at 1900 metres above sea level. You will have 4-5 hours at your disposal, during which you can either explore the surroundings of the lodge or take the cable car up to the summit. If you decide to explore the area at 1900 metres, you can reach the lower and upper Silvestri Craters. You will be impressed by the lunar landscape of Etna's southern slopes!
If you decide to ascend further, you will take the cable car up to 2500 metres and from there, powerful off-road vehicles with the assistance of alpine guides. Once we reach the summit craters, you will explore them for about 2-3 hours in complete safety, and you can even trek back to the cable car. As for lunch, you can bring it from home or buy it at the lodge. Once everyone is back, we will take the bus back to Taormina.
