Johnny quickly sorted the group into similar-ability sub-groups. He was firm but kind with a couple where the wife was much better than the husband, but they wanted to stay together. Her husband was keeping the group back. Johnny was always careful with his students, and no harm came to them. They did not stray onto dangerous Black Runs. Johnny always knew where to find snow when there was a thaw. He gave good individual attention and at the end of the course presented an SMT certificate showing what skills had already been acquired and what ones remained to be developed.
