About the Activity

What to Expect

If you are looking to share a truly unique adventure, our private glacier tour in the Sapphire Ice Cave at the Vatnajökull National Park is perfect for you!

This is a great opportunity to discover and explore the natural wonders of Iceland in the best company. First, we will depart in our 4x4 vehicle from the Glacier Lagoon car park towards the glacier. Once we arrive, our guide will provide you with the necessary gear for the excursion. Once everyone is equipped, you will receive safety instructions to prepare yourself for the great adventure you are about to experience and begin a 30-minute hike to the edge of the glacier. As you enter the Sapphire Ice Cave, our guide will use professional photography equipment to capture the most special moments during the route. We will explore the multiple chambers formed in the Sapphire Ice Cave during the summer, each unique every year, while our guide provides you with interesting information about the history of Vatnajökull glacier.

You will then put your crampons on the ice and head towards the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier. Walking on the ice is definitely a unique feeling, you will follow our guide along the glacier in the direction of the beautiful glass crevasses. During the walk, you will see different glacier formations known as moulins or deep glacier holes, all this while admiring the barren landscape that surrounds it.

Finally, you will reach a slope in the ice that descends into a huge ice canyon. This is where you will find the glass crevasses where we will enter. You will be able to see how the further you go, the more intense the crystal blue colour of the crevice becomes, making it look like you are on another planet. After about an hour of exploring the crevasse formations, we will exit and head back to our starting point. Without a doubt, sharing this memory with your loved ones will be one of the highlights of this amazing experience.
