Rafting on the Dranse
Rafting tours on the Dranse
The Dranse is a river in the French department Haute-Savoie. It is a tributary of the Rhône and flows into the splendid Lake Geneva. It is very close to this famous French-Swiss lake that rafting activities take place on. The activities available last between 2h and 3h and are of easy and medium difficulty levels. Children from 8 years old can also participate in the activities.
The meeting point for each activity is at the provider's rafting base. Depending on the selected provider, you will meet your guide in Thonon-les-Bains, either at 9 Chemin de la Ballastière, or at 30 Rond-point de Bioge.
The process is almost the same for all activities. Once your group has gathered at the base, a guide will give you your equipment and explain the safety rules. Then, you will be driven to the starting point of the tour in a private shuttle. After the activity, you will be driven back to the base by shuttle.
There are also itineraries that end near the rafting base. If you choose one of those tours, you can walk back to the base. Once at the base, you will have time to rest and regain your strength at the restaurant/bar, etc. of the rafting centre.
Rafting on the Dranse often begins at the "S,” a specific point on the river called this way. During your adventure, you will be able to slide on strong water rapids such as the "passage de l'escalier" and the "passage de la pile" and many other parts used for rounds of the World Rafting and Kayak Championships.
But don't worry, the activities always start on calmer sections and become a little more difficult as you go. There are naturally easy tours for beginners and families. Rafters looking for an adrenaline rush will certainly love the Rafting Rodéo, the most difficult of all offers (medium difficulty) of this part of the Dranse.
