Learn to ski in Obergurgl
Known as the Diamond of the Alps, the traditional village of Obergurgl is situated at an altitude of 1,930m in the Ötztal valley in Tyrol, only an hour’s drive from Innsbruck. The resort has a laid-back, international feel and is one of the most snow-sure in Austria, with a season that extends from November to April. Everything within Obergurgl is pretty compact and most accommodation is ski in/ski out, making it ideal for families.
Obergurgl and its direct neighbour Hochgurgl share 112km of slopes, the Top Express cablecar directly linking the two areas. The Obergurgl pistes are distributed on two mountains, the Hohe Mut (2670m) and the Festkogel (3038m). The slopes are mostly blue and red, meaning that the resort is ideal for beginners to intermediates.
Ski lessons for beginners in Obergurgl

The ski schools in Obergurgl take their next-step skiers up on the Roßkarbahn, where the long and leisurely no.6 blue meanders back down towards Obergurgl. The 6 is ideal for working on parallel skiing.
The Steinmann lift at the east end of Obergurgl accesses various blue and red slopes that are optimal for practicing newly-learned skills after lessons.
Kids’ ski lessons in Obergurgl
In Obergurgl, young skiers can have lessons from age 4yrs. The ski schools in Obergurgl teach their young skiers the first skiing moves in the “Kinderclub” nursery area, which is flat, secure and specifically designed for young learners. Once the basics have been established, lessons progress onto the nearby green runs.
Intermediate to advanced young skiers are taken up on the Festkogl, Roßkar and the Hohe Mut II lifts, which access some excellent blues and reds plus a couple of blacks. Here, lessons focus on achieving smooth swings whilst carving.

Ski passes are available for the Obergurgl-Hochgurgl areas, with seasonal, age and family discounts available. Lift passes for 3 days and more are issued as the Ötztal Super Skipass, which covers 356km of pistes across Obergurgl-Hochgurgl, Sölden, Hochoetz-Kühtai, Niederthai, Gries and Vent.
