Ski Schools in Les Menuires

Learn to ski in Les Menuires

The ski resort Les Menuires is located in the Belleville Valley, in the French Savoie department. In the same valley, Les Menuires’ neighbouring resorts Val Thorens and Saint-Martin-de-Belleville can be found. Les Menuires is part of the huge ski area called Les 3 Vallées, “The Three Valleys” in English, and also counts resorts like Orelle, Méribel, Brides-les-Bains, La Tania and Courchevel amongst its local resorts. Skiers in Les Menuires have access to numerous slopes on the following mountains: Pointe de la Masse (2804m), Roc de Fer (2294m), Tougnète (2437m), Mont de la Challe (2573m), Roc des 3 Marches (2704m) and Mont de la Chambre (2850m).

This beginner-friendly resort is only 2.5h away from Lyon and Geneva. Its beginner-friendliness can be traced back to the fact that two-thirds of the resort’s slopes are green or blue, meaning very easy or easy. Furthermore, vacationists also have free access to six ski lifts leading skiers and snowboarders to wide and easy pistes. What is more, ski schools in Les Menuires offer ski lessons for beginners from the age of 3. Children are always put at ease in order for them to feel more confident on their skis. The objective of such lessons is simple: participants should be able to ski freely and control their speed thanks to the snowplough technique.

The meeting point of group lessons is at the ski school office in La Croisette. If you’ve chosen to participate in a private lesson, a private instructor awaits you either in La Croisette, Reberty 2000, Les Bruyères - usually at the bottom of the slopes - or at a specific point which has been fixed between a student and their instructor. The ski schools in Les Menuires normally recommend being at the arranged spot 10min prior to the start of the lesson.

Kids can learn to ski from the age of 3 at one of the many ski schools in Les Menuires. The youngest skiers always make their first steps into the world of skiing in the snow garden, a closed and safe space adapted to children’s wishes. In order to respond best to the kids’ needs, an instructor supervises a group of no more than six children. While the little skiers discover the kids’ area, children from the age of 6 can already explore the easy slopes of Les Menuires - together with an experienced instructor of course. During the very first lesson, participants are split into groups of 10 skiers (maximum) of the same age and/or level of experience. Once the groups are formed, the snowplough technique, parallel turns and even freeriding and carving, depending on a group’s level, can be learned.

More experienced skiers can explore the resort’s red and black slopes, a popular snowpark and also freeride zones. An example for Les Menuires’ versatility surely is Pointe de la Masse. With its summit reaching a height of 2804m, a breath-taking panoramic view, including the famous Mont Blanc, can be enjoyed here.

Furthermore, the mountain offers blue slopes leading straight back down to the valley as well as the famous black run Dame Blanche. Here, you’ll also find the so-called “Liberty Ride”, which offers a safe off-piste experience, as well as the “Walibi Gliss’” zone for families. Finally, the green slope Boulevard de la Masse is the ideal playground for beginners: you can either make your first turns here alone, with friends and family, or during a ski lesson offered by one of the ski schools in Les Menuires. The resort’s diversity and beginner-friendliness are even reflected in one of the resort’s slogans: ”You don’t have to be a great skier to live a great experience” (“Pas besoin d’être un grand skieur pour s’offrir un grand spectacle”).
