We had three excellent private 2 hour lessons with Remy at Vallorcine’s La Poya base. It is the perfect place to learn with a variety of gentle slopes and not too crowded. All the ESF instructors were very friendly and encouraging, and Remy took me in just six hours from a total beginner to skiing down the slope by myself (albeit nervously!). He also helped my step-daughter, who already had some experience, to build her confidence and move onto steeper runs. The base at La Poya has a relaxed and friendly vibe and is an scenic 20 minute drive from the centre of Chamonix. If you don’t have a car it’s an easy train ride with a station right at the base.
