Snowboard Instructor Private for Kids & Adults

51Customer recommendations
"We would definitely recommend a private lesson if you are not sure what you are doing. We had done some skiing lessons back home in UK before the trip but we decided to book ourselves for more lessons anyway to familiarise ourselves. It turned out to be a great decision. The booking service was excellent and communication was efficient. We booked it for the following day and they got back to us really quickly. Jonas, our instructor, was very patient with us and gave us lots of information. We booked 3 hours session and we really enjoyed it. Thank you very much."

Ski Instructor Private for Adults - All Levels

36Customer recommendations
"My son was very happy in the one-week group ski lessons he did with Stoked. His teacher, Martina, was kind and professional. He learned a lot and had a great time with his group. I would definitely go back and would recommend highly! For comparison, we have tried the Swiss Ski School in Zermatt as well, and our experience with Stoked was much better. With the Swiss Ski school the kids and the teacher spoke French most of the time, leaving my son feeling left out of the group, although I of course put English and German as his languages when I registered him. At Stoked, no problems, all kids spoke English fluently, and my son was happy!"

Ski Schools in Zermatt

Learn to ski in Zermatt

Just over 2.5hrs from Geneva and 3hrs drive from Milan Malpensa, Zermatt lies directly at the foot of the Matterhorn mountain. This traditional and iconic ski resort offers 200km of local slopes for all levels across the four interconnected skiing sectors of Rothorn, Gornergrat, Matterhorn Glacier Paradise & Schwarzsee.

Zermatt is also linked by lift and piste to Italian Cervinia, this link providing a further 160km of pistes and creating a total of 360km of skiable area.

The Rothorn, Gornergrat & Matterhorn Glacier Paradise sectors have lifts to more than 3000m and present an incredible view of 38 mountain peaks that ride above 4000m. The Klein Matterhorn has Europe’s highest pistes at 3820m and is also the starting point of an iconic 21 km red descent back down into Zermatt.

The Stockhorn area of the Gorner glacier is home to a couple of yellow runs that descend more than 1300m. Yellow runs are considered the world’s most difficult: These are ungroomed, unpatrolled off-piste tracks that are marked and secured from avalanches.

Ski lessons for beginners in Zermatt

Although 69% of slopes in Zermatt are red, there are also 75km of blue runs, so learners have plenty of choice. Zermatt offers a ski pass for beginners, which provides access to the lifts & runs of the Sunnegga-Blauherd beginners area. The pass is available from CHF53.00 and children under 10yrs can ski for free.

Ski schools in Zermatt offer ski lessons from age 3yrs, groups being organised according to age and ability. Group lessons for kids generally last 3hrs, and for adults, 5hrs. Adult groups have no more than 6 participants and the instructors focus on targeted exercises & corrections to help skiers progress as quickly as possible.

The very first skiing lessons cover the skiing basics of the snowplough and glide. The ski schools in Zermatt teach the basic techniques on the nursery slopes of the Sunnegga area. Once these moves are secure, lessons move to pistes with a slight gradient and the snowplough turn is introduced.

Ski schools in Zermatt recommend the blue runs in the Gornergrat area as ideal for practicing after lessons. Additionally, the glacier offers well groomed & flat pistes that suitable for beginners and come with breathtaking panoramic views.

Kids’ ski lessons in Zermatt

Young skiers can have their first skiing lessons aged 3yrs in Zermatt, lessons lasting between 2-6,5hrs daily, depending on the ski school. Ski schools in Zermatt arrange lessons in groups of 6-8 children according to their ability, and some lesson packages have a lunch option.

Young beginners learn their first moves in one of the ski Kindergartens or on the nursery areas around the Sunnegga area. Each of the ski schools in Zermatt has specific lesson meeting points, this information being given with the relevant course details.

The kindergarten areas are secure and specially designed for children, with moving carpets and fun obstacles. Some ski schools in Zermatt have mascot characters who further help little learners get used to moving on skies.

Ski novices start with the basic techniques of the snowplough and glide. When these are well established, lessons progress to easy slopes with a gentle incline, where the young skiers begin to work on snowplough turns.

The ski schools in Zermatt take their young skiers with previous experience directly to more challenging slopes that suit their experience level. After snowplough skiing, the next step is the graduation to parallel skiing and eventually carving, for advanced young skiers.

The Gornergrat area is also recommended by the ski schools in Zermatt for their intermediate skiers, as various extended red runs start here that are ideal for practicing newly-learned skills.

FAQs

How do we find a suitable activity?

In every ski resort you will find an overview of all available offers. On the left side you have filters to quickly find the right offer. For example, you can search specifically for beginner ski courses for children in groups.

How do we find offers for our desired date?

Under the menu item "Select course date" in the upper left corner of the page you can select a desired start date. At the top of the search results you will find the offers for the desired start date. Below follow offers in a similar period.

How do we find group lessons or private instructors?

Group courses are marked with "Group". You can search specifically for group courses by selecting the "Group" filter under the "Category" menu item. Private teachers are marked with the inscription "Private". You can search for private teachers by selecting the "Private" filter under the "Category" menu item.

How do we find offers in our language?

Under the menu item "Language" you can select a desired language. Afterwards only offers will be shown where this language is available.

When should we book?

During the holiday weeks, ski and snowboard courses are usually fully booked. In order to make sure that there is still a place available in the desired ski or snowboard course, the motto is: the sooner the better.

How do we find our appropriate experience level?

Next to the menu item "Experience level" you will find a description of the individual experience levels. If you're still not sure, you don't need to worry. Simply choose the experience level that best suits your abilities. Before the first lesson of a group course, ski schools will assess your abilities so that you can be placed in the right group. In any case, private instructors will take your abilities into account on an individual basis.

How do we find offers including equipment?

All offers including equipment are marked with the inscription "Ski rental included". If you find the inscription "Ski rental optional" you can book the equipment for this offer. You will find offers including equipment faster if you select the filter "Ski rental including" under the menu item "Popular options". Depending on the provider, an offer including equipment contains: skis, ski poles, ski boots and helmet. You will find a detailed list of the included rental items in the respective offer description.

There is no offer including equipment, where can we alternatively rent equipment?

In a ski resort there is almost without exception the possibility to rent winter sports equipment. If you book via CheckYeti, you will receive discounts from our partner Skiset, where you can conveniently reserve your equipment online.

How many participants are usually in a group?

This depends on the ski school. Some ski schools have a maximum number of participants per group. You can find this information in the descriptions of the offers.

At what age can children ski or snowboard?

There is no fixed age limit here. Supported by specially trained children's ski instructors, children can already learn to ski playfully at kindergarten age. Depending on the children's level of motoric and social development, the ideal starting age is between 4 and 5 years. Occasionally there are children who can already learn to ski at the age of 3 1/2 years.

How many days should the lessons last for our children?

During the holiday weeks, children's ski courses for beginners usually start on Sunday or Monday. The program is designed in such a way that the best learning results are achieved when your children take part in the ski course throughout the week. So they don't miss the final event (race, etc.) and experience a great week with their group. For advanced children the learning success usually kicks in on the third day.

Is it better to put our child in a group lesson or a private tuition?

The group lessons are generally recommended for beginners. Learning together with peers is more fun. The children are not constantly in the focus and have the possibility to catch their breath between the individual exercises, while the other children are on it. In order not to underchallenge highly talented children, a private ski instructor is recommended.

Can we join our child with a private instructor?

Yes, that's possible. Some providers even offer special family offers. Otherwise, you can simply book a private instructor for children or adults and inform the ski school after booking that you would like to go together.
