What to Expect

If you are a mountain adventurer accustomed to long-distance treks and high-altitude challenges, hiking on Mount Etna to the craters at an altitude of up to 3350 meters will be an unforgettable experience. From the meeting point, take the Etna cable car to ascend to 2500 meters, then continue your thrilling journey in a 4x4 jeep up to 2900 meters. The adventure truly begins here as you start your trek to the summit, the highest point currently reachable on the volcano. Along the way, you will be accompanied by an expert volcanological or alpine guide to ensure your safety and provide fascinating insights into the area.

As you trek to the main crater of Mount Etna, you will witness the raw power and beauty of this active volcano. From the summit, admire the spectacular views stretching over inland Sicily, the eastern Sicilian coast to Calabria, visible in the distance. Continue your hike on a crater terrace to admire Bocca Nuova and its two craters Southeast Crater and Northeast Crater. Each step brings you closer to the heart of the volcanic landscape, offering a unique and mesmerizing experience.

Descend the side of the volcano to reach the explosive Barbagallo craters from the eruption of 2002. Along the way, you will encounter effusive and explosive craters, and admire the active craters of Bocca Nuova, Voragine, Northeast Crater, Southeast Crater, and Barbagallo craters. • Meeting place: At our Info Point in Esagonal, in the Piazzale del Rifugio Sapienza Etna Sud.

• Meeting time: 30 minutes before the start of the activity

• Departure At Piazzale Rifugio Sapienza

• Cable car till 2500m

• Jeep transfer from 2500m to 2900m

• Uphill trekking from 2900m to 3350m

• Downhill trekking from 3350m to 2500m

• Cable car downhill

• Return at Piazzale Rifugio Sapienza

Requirements

• Minimum age: 8 years

• Only suitable for people accustomed to walking rough trails and with a high level of fitness

• Not suitable for people with serious medical conditions

• Not suitable for people with bad heart conditions

• The excursions will be guaranteed with a minimum of 5 participants and confirmed on the day based on weather and volcanological conditions. If the guide feels that the weather and volcanological conditions are not suitable for the hike up to 3350m, the activity can be replaced with a trek up to 3000m.
