Canyoning in Almbachklamm - Swiss Cheese Tour"As a family with 4 children aged 18, 12, 10, and 8, we participated in the canyoning. It quickly became clear that our two youngest would not be able to keep up with the pace of the older participants. The leaders rightly decided to separate my wife, myself, and the two youngest from the group. This removed the pressure to perform for the little ones. They were able to take in the experience at their own pace and take the time to build their self-confidence, which meant both enjoyed the fun and challenging jumps. Along the way, we as parents were not forgotten; we also had the chance to do a challenging jump here and there while our leader, Pere, kept an eye on the children. It is the ideal opportunity to combine a stay in Salzburg with a dash of adventure. First, we will take you to the Salzach, where we master rapids, ride on the waves and pass an impressive waterfall. Later we continue with the Almbach tour, where we finish off the day with endless jumps, swimming and fun. Tour programme We pick you up at your hotel at approx. 8:30am and take you to our base, where you get your equipment and can change. Then we will go by our bus to the river, where an introduction will be given by the guide. On a short part of the route we will familiarise you with the character of the river and the commands on the boat. Soon we reach the "labyrinth", a blocked rapid, which demands our concentrated attention. After the infamous "railway surge", we continue on many waves through Lend. From the impressive waterfall of the Gasteiner Ache it becomes a bit more leisurely. Shortly before we get off the boat there are still some lively sections waiting. At the end we drive back to the camp, where you can shower and change. We eat lunch at the Gasthof Torrenerhof next door. At 2pm we set off for the 2nd tour in the Almbachklamm.The course can be adapted to your individual wishes - there are easy variations where difficult places can be avoided or roped down, while the advanced (or brave) among you can also dare higher jumps. At approx. 6pm we are back in the camp where you deserve a drink. Afterwards we drive you back to your hotel. Tour facts Rafting: - River: Salzach (difficulty level: class III) - Description: The river fed by the glacier regions of the Grossglockner offers fast white water with high rolls and breakers when the water level is high enough. - Route: from Eschenau near Zell am See to Schwarzach - Distance: 11km - Total duration: 4h - Time on the river: 1.5h Canyoning: - Canyon: Almbachklamm (difficulty level: easy/moderate) - Description: The Almbachklamm is in principle the continuation of the Strubklamm, interrupted by the Wiestal reservoir. Since my son is allergic to wasps and we had to bring emergency medication, it was reassuring to know that our guide had just received training on this the day before. I was there with my two children (12 and 13). Surprisingly, after the first few practice rappels, the younger one got scared because the rocks were wet and more slippery than in the climbing gym. Long story short: He started crying, and Chris took the older kids on the tour alone while we waited at the car. The older one was absolutely thrilled and talked about it for hours afterward. Sport und Natur Kössen was incredibly accommodating. Since we only had a few days left, there weren't many free slots, but they offered us both a rafting trip as an alternative.
