No, the ability to swim is a requirement to take part in this activity.
The minimum age for this activity is 12 years. You also need to be in good physical health (no cardiovascular issues, lung diseases, diabetes, or mental health conditions) and be able to swim.
The course includes a theoretical introduction, 2 open water dives, a certified SSI diving instructor, high-quality diving gear and a scuba tank. Pick-up from your accommodation in the St. Paul's Bay area is also included. Please note that for boat dives, an extra EUR 10 per dive is charged on site.
The group size for the regular course is limited to a maximum of 5 participants, while the VIP option has a maximum of 2 participants per instructor.

Yes, you must leave a surface interval of at least 24 hours between the end of your last dive and your next flight.
You will receive a theoretical introduction and learn how to handle the diving equipment and what it feels like to breathe underwater. You will then complete some exercises in shallow water before going on two open water dives.
The course includes two open water dives to a maximum depth of 12 metres.

Octopus Garden Diving Center Malta is part of the worldwide SSI network of dive centres that provide SSI certification courses, thereby following the organisation's internationally set standards for scuba diving education.














The activity SSI Try Open Water Scuba Diving Course for Beginners by Octopus Garden Diving Center Malta in Qawra (St. Paul's Bay) and Bugibba (St Paul's Bay) is available every day except Saturday, from September 15, 2026 through October 30, 2026. On each available day there is 1 start time at 10:00. Sessions last 5 hours and are offered as group activities. Prices start from €199.00 per person.
