This adventurous via ferrata is an absolute highlight for all panorama fans who already have some climbing experience. The route of medium difficulty takes you for a full 560 metres of climbing to the summit of the Drachenwand, where you will be rewarded with a stunning view over the crystal clear Mondsee lake and the surrounding mountain ranges. A truly spectacular tour with impressive heights!

Tour programme
- Preparation:
We meet at the booked start time at the car park (for a fee) for the via ferrata at Gasthof Drachenwand. Here, you will meet your certified and experienced guide who will hand out the necessary equipment if required. Afterwards, we will walk for about 30 minutes to the start of the via ferrata. Before setting off, you will receive a detailed introduction to the route and some important safety guidelines.
- Tour:
The entry point at about 675 m starts with a row of easy climbing sections. Then, the path leads us along a small waterfall up to the first lookout point, which already gives us a taste of the final view. An absolute highlight of the tour is crossing the adventurous suspension bridge, which offers you a breathtaking view at 300 m above the ground. After climbing a total of 560 metres, we reach the summit, where you will be rewarded with a fantastic view of the lakes and the surrounding peaks of the Dachstein massif. After a short break, we start the descent over Hirschteig. Here, the Drachenloch, another highlight of the tour, awaits us. Through the hole in the steep cliff, you will get another fantastic look at the deep blue Mondsee.
- Arrival:
After about 4 hours, we arrive back at the starting point at the Gasthof Drachenwand, which offers the perfect opportunity to enjoy a well-deserved lunch.

Recommendations for Guided Via Ferrata on the Drachenwand for Panorama Fans

Wolgang was an awesome guide. Firstly, he caught me not clipping carabineers properly .. once was enough to take clipping seriously but he was able to catch me on other times when the lock didnt fully clip. As a beginner, this route was quite challenging for me but Wolgang made it somewhat easy. When i am stumped on which way to go, he guided the way. He gave me water tooo.. hahaha... he was my father, my mother, my ancestor. ..all jokes aside the klettersteig should be taken seriously. That being said. I had alot of fun. He is very light hearted and easy to smile but quick to correct you for your safety. I plan on becoming more fit so i can have more energy to do more klettersteig. This was a good real intro to the sport.
