Your holidays in the south of Portugal are the perfect time to start your surfing journey! Amado Surf School awaits you directly on the beautiful beach of Amado for full-day lessons that will allow you to progress quickly. In small groups of up to 8 participants of similar age (we offer special courses for children aged 6 to 10), you will benefit from the expertise and passion of our certified surf instructors for learning in a safe and friendly atmosphere. Meeting & Preparation
We meet you at our school on Praia do Amado at 10 am (the time may change depending on the season: we will inform you in time before your course). There, you will meet our instructors, you will be equipped with the appropriate gear and then you will reach the water for the first 1.5h session. Afterwards a well-deserved 1.5-hour break awaits you, during which you can regain your strength and grab a bite. Then the second 1.5h session will take place. In total, please allow about 5hrs for each day of class.
Course Content
Each day of lesson contains two 1.5-hour sessions, which are organized as follows:
- Briefing
- Theory session on the beach
- The right warm up
- Practice on the beach
- Practice in the sea
- Debriefing
As a beginner, you will learn safety rules, familiarize yourself with surfing equipment, practice how stand-up on a board, catch foams, generate speed or slow down and many other things depending on the length of your course!

Do I need to be a good swimmer, and what's the minimum age?
You need to be able to swim to participate. The minimum age for the courses is 6 years.
Why can the time of my lesson change, and how big is the group?
The meeting time is usually at 10 am but can be changed by the surf school depending on the season. You will be informed in time if there is a change. The groups consist of a maximum of 8 participants.
Is equipment included, and what do I need to bring?
A surfboard and wetsuit are included in the price. You only need to bring your swimwear, a towel and a picnic for the break.
How long is the course and what is the schedule?
In total, you should allow about 5 hours for the course. This includes two 1.5-hour surf sessions and a 1.5-hour break in between.
Are there special courses for children?
Yes, there are special courses for children from 6 to 10 years old. The groups are always made up of participants of a similar age.
What will I learn as a beginner?
As a beginner, you will learn the safety rules and about the equipment. You will practise how to stand up on the board and catch your first waves in the white water.
