Details
We begin our route at the impressive Plaka Bridge—a stunning single-arch stone structure, 20 meters high and 40 meters wide—the largest of its kind in the Balkans. After gearing up with specialized rafting equipment, we set off downstream.
No prior experience is required for this exhilarating adventure. The river’s Class III whitewater offers both excitement and beauty, with shimmering reflections dancing on the surface. As we paddle along, we’re surrounded by towering canyon walls that rise up to 700 meters, revealing the dramatic landscapes and crystal-clear waters of the Arachthos Gorge.
In winter, the waterfall roars with full force, while in summer, parts of the riverbed may run dry, creating a contrasting seasonal charm.
After a thrilling 9-kilometer descent, the journey ends in the Tzari area. From there, we return by bus to Alpine Zone’s base, located just a few meters past the Plaka Bridge. There, our friendly staff welcome you with traditional syrupy sweets, fresh water, changing rooms, and washing facilities.
