Our Evening at Sami Camp & Reindeer Feeding in Tromsø gives you a unique opportunity to spend your time with your dearests at a Sami reindeer camp. Come and learn more about the indigenous Sami people and their strong bond with the majestic reindeer!
Tour programmeMeeting point
We will meet at the Tromsø Havn Prostneset bus terminal 20 minutes before the tour starts. There are two entrances: one by the buses and one between the terminal and the Clarion Edge hotel. Our guides will be located by the buses, where they will be ready to depart for the camp. From there, it will take approximately 25 minutes by bus to reach the Sami reindeer camp, where a local guide will be waiting for you.
Activity
First, a reindeer herder will introduce you to our heard of 300 cute fluffy reindeer and give you buckets with reindeer's favourite food. You can walk among your new friends, stroke them, hand-feed them and take as many pictures with them as you like. If you are interested, you can also walk around the camp and learn more about the reindeer herding.
After half an hour, we will invite you for a hot drink into a traditional candlelit Sami house gamme. In a cosy atmosphere, around the fire, we will serve you smoked salmon as a starter followed by typical Sami soup bidos with Sami bread. To finish the day, you will experience the joik performance, which is a traditional Sami folk song, and fascinating storytelling of Sami culture while enjoying a chocolate cake and blueberry dessert. On a clear night, you might be lucky and catch the breathtaking northern lights.

A warm welcome, good and very interesting stories from a Sami man about their history. Feeding the reindeer was a fantastic experience; you have over an hour for it. A good three-course meal. All in all, well organized and highly recommended.

Trip to the camp and back was organized, you just get into a bus and get dropped off at the same location after the tour. There, we had a short introduction from our Sami guide and immediately went feeding the hungry reindeers. They were not shy at all and you could pet them a little bit while they were feeding although they didn't really like it. When all the food was fed, we got dinner (salat + main course with reindeer meat + dessert). After dinner the Sami guide told us about his work each month during the year as a reindeer herder. He was a real fun and likable guy and his story was very informative. At last, the bus took us back to the city.
