Our beginner surf lessons at Gamboa Beach in Peniche are a perfect choice if you would like to try surfing for the first time or just have little experience on the board. At one of Portugal's most popular surfing destinations, adults and even children as young as 2 years will learn the basics of surfing with the help of our certifed instructors. During the surfing lessons in small groups of up to 4 participants, you learn how to paddle, move on the board and ride your first green waves. To ensure a great first surfing experience, we provide you with high-quality equipment, including beginner-friendly surfboards which are easy to balance.
Meeting & Preparation
Meeting point is our surf shop at Gamboa Beach (free parking available). Here you are welcomed by your surf instructor, you can change your clothes and store your valuables. Then you will receive the appropriate surf equipment and we head to the beach. Normally we surf at the Praia da Gamboa. If the conditions don't allow it, we offer you a free transfer to a beach with better conditions. In total the surf lessons in Peniche last 2 hours per day, of which we spend an average of 1 to 1.5 hours in the water.
Start time
The start time depends on the tides to ensure the best conditions, so please plan some extra time on the day of your surf lessons. The exact start times are available 2 to 3 days in advance. We will inform you in time after you have completed the booking.
Course content
- Basic knowledge of the surfing equipment & safety rules
- Paddling techniques, sitting and turning on the board
- Theory about beaches, currents and wave types
- The duck-dive or eskimo-roll (diving through the waves with the board)
- Standing up on the board (take off)
- Surfing broken waves
- Priority rules
- Position in the line up to catch unbroken waves
- Surfing green waves with bottom turn
- Advanced manoeuvres according to your development
